- Why:
-
- Anyone who uses the good old Sidekick and long distance services
- may has problems somewhere down the line. I got tired of having
- to dial my service, the access code and then the number. That
- thing would not even take commas for delays. Since it's memory
- resident I put up with it far too long. Now with utilities like
- Double-Dos many things can be made memory resident and are only a
- few keystrokes away. So I set down this evening and wrote this
- short little routine. Of course, the compiler made a monster out
- of it.
-
- Credits:
-
- This utility was developed using BASICA (IBM), compiled with
- Quick-Basic (Microsoft), and enhanced with the Xqprint function,
- part of Thomas Hanlin's ADVBAS which seems to work fine with the
- Quick-basic compiler. Morris, our cat, added some comment lines
- too.
-
- I did not wanted to spend all day on editors. Since Karl Brendel
- did such a nice job with QFONEDIT I went ahead and based QMDIAL
- on the QMODEM (The Forbin Project) directory.
-
-
- Basics:
-
- The QMDIAL only uses the QMODEM.CNF, QMODEM.PRE and QMODEM.FON.
- It does not require any other part of the QMODEM or the QFONEDIT
- programs. However you may use them to edit the phone directories.
- You may consider moving the necessary Qfiles to another directory
- for you convinience.
-
-
-
-
- More directories:
-
- You may use as many directories as you like. Create them with
- Qfonedit and rename them after you're finished. You may bug Karl
- a little so he'll put a directory name option in his fine editor
- (Hint!).
-
- Path:
-
- If the QMDIAL can't find the QMODEM.CNF file at the time of
- booting it will ask you to define a path.
-
- Example:
- You're in a first layer subdirectory called "XXX", your QMODEM
- files Qmodem.CNF and Qmodem.FON are in a first layer subdirectory
- called "QD".
-
- You would type: \QD
-
- Across drives you may type : C:\QD
- (if the files are on drive C:)
-
-
-
- QMDIAL
-
- The program needs little explonation. It's straight forward (I
- hope). Since I just done it there maybe a little bug hidden
- somewhere. If so, let me know.
-
- QMDIAL displays 100 phone numbers (cut in size) at one time. To
- see the other 100 numbers press <O>
-
- If the information is not sufficient, press <W> and enter the
- number of the window you like to see for additional information.
- The number to be entered ranges from 0 to 9, pressing return is
- not needed.
-
- <S> will search for any string you enter. Case is ignored. You
- may continue with the search till no more matching string is
- found.
-
- <M> allows you to manualy dial a number. The modem command (ATDT
- or ATDP) will be added automatically. You may add the entered
- number to the current directory. To do that, simply select <S> to
- save the entry. You will be given a chance to name it, prior to
- saving it to the directory file.
-
- <D> let's you enter the record number to be dialed.
-
- <A> allows you to change your directory file.
-
-
-
- Conclusion:
-
- This program suposed to get me away from ever again using that
- old rotary dial in my office. Let's hope it makes your day
- easier too. Of course just like with these $1000.00 programs
- there is no warranty on anything, anywhere. If your computer
- blows up, it's all your fault. Sorry to say it so direct.
-
- Since I did not spend years on this program, keep your $$$. Save
- them, and if you ever need some PC stuff (Hardware or software)
- may be give us a call for the best prices.
